3 Original Music Therapy Songs for St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner as the days get longer. 🍀 Here are 3 original songs I created for St. Patrick’s Day for music therapy and adapted lessons.

1. Shamrock Smash

This song is a rhythmic chant where the A section is a chorus to come back to. The B section can then go in a variety of directions depending on who you are making music with! Some ideas include: presenting rhythms for the group to echo, drum solos, or songwriting sections. This song can be used with a variety of ages, adapted for the different individuals it is being presented to!

2. Shake the Shamrock

This song was created for voice lessons to work on breathing awareness and control. Students can imagine or have visuals of a shamrock or clover that they pretend to blow like a dandelion. I have had some students pretend the shamrock was gigantic, which can be then be imitated in the movements as creative expression. You could imagine a teeny, tiny shamrock as well too. How would that affect the breathing? This song uses the pentatonic scale on the black keys of a piano.

3. Rainbow Song

This is an instrumental song to play on the bells to working on identifying the colors, notes, and playing the bells. This song is great to work on color identification, fine motor skills, or cognitive goals such as sequencing. Socialization and communication could be worked on as well, focusing on the vocalizing aspect of the song. Another idea is that clients and students can communicate in their own way which colors could be played in the B section, which acts as a freer, more improvisational session.
