What are Mudras?

“Mudras function as energetic keys that unlock (our) inherent positive qualities that are always present within us." - Joseph LePage

Mudras have been around for thousands of years. Rishis would hold mudras as they naturally arose from deep meditative states. Today, we use mudras to help us get into meditative states; and for our clients and students with various needs, mudras can be incredibly helpful for feeling comfortable in their bodies, quieting their minds, and self-regulating. And, we know music to be effective in self-regulation, focus, and empowerment as well.

Mudras can be very profound for our children and have many benefits such as:

  • Fine Motor

  • Self-Regulation

  • Stress and Anxiety Support

  • Energy Management

  • Interoception

  • Focus and Attention

  • Body Awareness

  • Sensory Integration

All of this contributing to supportive preparatory work and specialized programming! Music has been shown in research to be an effective medium for the areas as well. Combining them with mudras creates a rich, sensory experience that is more accessible for all!

Find our music on SoundCloud! Play the songs in your class or session while you support your students in the mudra sequences.

Honoring Yoga

It’s important to honor yoga and its history and knowing where mudras are from and why we are doing them is very important. We talk about all of this in the ebook and also provide activities to make mudras and music fun and accessible for your clients and students so they can have their own direct experience with these powerful practices, supporting their wellbeing during your session/class and in their lives beyond your services.

Information and hand mudras for this product were sourced from Joseph and Lilian LePage’s book Mudras for Healing and Transformation. We encourage you to purchase this book to learn more about hand mudras and gain a deeper understanding and your own personal experience with them. It is with deep gratitude of their work we were able to learn about, experience, and personally benefit from this amazing practice, and then make it accessible to those we work with.

Hi! I am a mom of a strong and sassy toddler and founder of Spectrum Yoga. I have worked with kids and adults with varying needs and abilities for over 13 years.

For the past four years, I have worked closely with parents of kids with autism, sensory processing challenges, anxiety, and adhd as well as with the students themselves to create this unique program. Through this experience and additional trainings in behavioral neurobiology, neuroscience of self-regulation, and more, I finally feel I am ready to bring the incredible knowledge of what I’ve learned over the years and what I have created into the lives of people like you looking to do the same.

I look forward to sharing more with you, soon.
